The economists' association rejects Esencia; the resolution is from the 20th, not a vote on the 29th
On August 29, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., El Nuevo Día reports, by Génesis Ibarra Vázquez, that the Puerto Rico Association of Economists rejects the Esencia project in Cabo Rojo. This Saturday's news is that publication. The document is two pages and dated August 20. The board of directors approved it unanimously. It is not a vote on the 29th. This note does not turn it into one.
The AEPR, according to that page, says jobs in hotels, cleaning and maintenance, and food «tend to be found near the minimum wage», with no fringe-benefit guarantee. Public benefits, it holds, would not offset the costs and risks to the treasury, biodiversity, and the community's water. Homes run from 2 to 20 million dollars. It speaks of displacement and an enclave economy. It asks agencies to void permits already granted and grant no more.
Three Rules Capital and Reuben Brothers did not answer Saturday. The OGPe location consult, which El Nuevo Día dates July 30, is not a construction permit. This note does not turn it into one.
On the 27th, this desk covered the Cabo Rojo march in Puerto Rico today: Cabo Rojo says Esencia will not go. On the 28th, AAA and AEE before the Senate in the water reaches the Capitol. This note does not rewrite those. What remains is a resolution of the 20th, a note of the 29th, and a no from the economists. A reader who wants the text has the El Nuevo Día URL at the foot. This is not original reporting.
