The Drought Committee anticipates D3 in Gurabo, San Lorenzo, Las Piedras, and the metro area
On August 10, 2026, NotiCel reports that meteorologist Ernesto Rodríguez will recommend extending extreme drought to sectors of Gurabo, San Lorenzo, Las Piedras, San Juan, Carolina, and Trujillo Alto. He said so at the weekly Drought Committee meeting, with Governor Jenniffer González Colón. The recommendation would be submitted on Thursday, August 13. The rainfall deficit in the eastern third totals between 12 and 16 inches below normal. About 2.5 inches fell Tuesday over part of the Carraízo basin; the next two weeks would remain mostly dry.
Luis Reinaldo González Delgado, AAA executive president, placed Carraízo at 37.48 meters, with the daily drop reduced from some nine centimeters to four or five. La Plata was at 46.29 meters, under observation; Cidra at 400.12, at adjustments; Río Blanco under observation; Fajardo rose one centimeter. Jenniffer González Colón acknowledged that water has not arrived on the announced schedules. She cited the Cupey system, almost empty, and the Morcelo sector.
Education reported 25 schools without water on Monday, all with cisterns and in class. Josué Colón Ortiz said the Super Aqueduct reservoirs are healthier, with caution on consumption. The secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce, Carlos Ríos Pierluisi - the name NotiCel prints on this page - announced that the incentive for affected SMEs rose from a 5,000 maximum to 10,000 dollars. The Government added 3 million to 3 million prior, for 6 million. Eligible: sales of up to one million, up to 25 full-time employees, in 15 municipalities. The brackets are 2,500, 5,000, 7,500, or 10,000 dollars.
The Tourism Company allocated 2 million to the Mano Amiga program, up to 10,000 dollars for tourism businesses. On August 9, The San Juan Daily Star had published the 5,000 cap. This note of the 10th covers the increase and the name this page uses: Carlos Ríos Pierluisi. It is not merged with other DDEC secretaries that other notes, at other URLs, print another way.
