The UIA calls a 24-hour stoppage in the middle of the drought

On August 11, 2026, El Vocero covers the Unión Independiente Auténtica pressing the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority with a 24-hour stoppage in the middle of the water crisis. The union threatens to halt work from 10:00 p.m. Tuesday to 10:00 p.m. Wednesday if there are no offers. The clip dates the stoppage between August 11 and 12.

The wage proposal, according to the newspaper, was delivered on July 21. They had gone about three weeks without a reply. The demands the note names are not reduced to a percentage: scales, classification, subcontracting, and customer service. A wage figure El Vocero did not publish is not invented, nor a picket count, nor a number of customers the union would leave without water. The threat and the package are copied as they came out.

Five days earlier, on August 6, El Nuevo Día had recounted that Héctor Del Río Jiménez was resigning the AAA board chair because a 48-hour rationing plan that touched about 180,000 Carraízo customers, with a list of municipalities, was not consulted. That same August 6, the newspaper covered the Drought Monitor declaring extreme drought in portions of the south, a day before the Carraízo rationing other pieces date from August 7. The UIA stoppage enters that week, not a vacuum.

On August 1, Primera Hora reported that Governor Jenniffer González Colón activated a water emergency and asked the Board for $127 million in EPA revolving funds. On August 5, El Nuevo Día said the emergency reserve of about $1,300 million was being opened for cisterns and potabilization. On August 14, the same newspaper dates approval of those $127 million for 46 works. None of those line items is the offer the UIA says it has not received. They are named so the labor package is not confused with the federal money.

El Vocero places the stoppage in the middle of the drought. It does not publish here whether service to 180,000 customers stopped or how many hours water was missing because of the strike. This magazine does not either. The note is the ultimatum, the date, the package, and the three-week silence. The rationing figures and the EPA funds live in the notes that already cited them.
