Jenniffer González Colón blames the Board for the unpaid police raises

On July 30, 2026, NotiCel reports that Governor Jenniffer González Colón blamed the Financial Oversight Board that a large number of officers did not see the raise in their first paycheck. The Board still has not approved the salary scales the government submitted July 8, she told the press in Isabela. That morning a group demonstrated in front of Police Headquarters. Superintendent Joseph González indicated that those who did not see the raise will benefit in a second phase.

Jenniffer González Colón recalled that $44 million was identified for raises for all officers. Only $28 million has been able to be used, because the higher-experience scales have not been approved. The Board has to approve them, she said, and that is the second phase. The plan and the scale are submitted. It is unfair to the officers. The same, she added, is faced by school transporters, Title I technicians, and special-education assistants: the government says it has the money and the Board does not authorize it. I feel vicarious shame that the government cannot disburse those things, she held.

On July 27, Radio Isla had covered Gabriel Hernández: more than 6,000 without a raise, $44 million, $33 to the new scale, and about $11 remaining. NotiCel puts 44 and 28. Two breakdowns. They are not averaged. On July 10, the same NotiCel said the new scale would show up in the next paycheck. This July 30 note is the paycheck that did not arrive and the attribution to the Board.

Jenniffer González Colón speaks; Robert F. Mujica Jr. does not answer in this piece. Joseph González speaks of a second phase. The 43 percent Gabriel Hernández named on the 27th does not appear here. Each spokesperson stays in their release.
