Inflation eases in June to 4.2 percent
On July 30, 2026, Sin Comillas publishes that year-over-year inflation in Puerto Rico fell from 4.6 percent in May, its highest level since March 2023, to 4.2 percent in June, according to the Department of Labor and Human Resources. Against the prior month, the index fell 0.3 percent. The easing, the note says, comes from oil and gasoline, which fell 5.2 percent between May and June. After the resumption of bombings in recent days, a rebound is expected in July and August. That expectation is the text's. This magazine does not turn it into its own forecast.
The largest increase was recorded in transportation, 11.2 percent, dragged by a 36.9 percent year-over-year rise in gasoline. Entertainment (4.9), apparel (3.0), and medical care (3.2) also rose. Food increased 2.3, driven by fruits and vegetables (6.6). In perspective, 2025 closed with average inflation of 1.5 percent, the lowest since 2020. The annual rate was 2.0 in 2024 and 3.4 in 2023; in 2022 it reached 6.1, its highest level in more than 15 years.
On July 17, Sin Comillas covered the IIC's sixth contraction. On the 21st, June's employment drop. On the 13th, NotiCel had headlined that retail sales were falling while inflation was rising. Three series. This one covers June's 4.2. It is not used to contradict the IIC or the 2,100 jobs.
On July 13, the 114 pick already had sales and inflation in another note. This July 30 note is June's price figure, not a reprint. DACO and the drought price freeze that NotiCel covered on July 9 are another thread, of supply policy, not of CPI.
Sin Comillas does not publish the general index in points. The rates stand. The reader who wants the DTRH tables has the URL at the foot. This is not original reporting.
