Another outage: Central San Juan Unit 6 trips and leaves more than 133 thousand without power
On July 21, 2026, NotiCel reports that LUMA Energy reported an abrupt trip of Unit 6 at Central San Juan, operated by Genera PR, which caused an outage and a new load shedding. A little more than 133 thousand customers were left without service. San Juan was the most affected sector, with a little more than 46 thousand. Those two figures are from this note. They are not replaced by the 188 thousand of July 16 nor by Metro's 120,000 of the 20th.
The outlet chains the event with those of the previous week at Costa Sur, where one unit was damaged and another went out of service. There is no Genera technical report here, nor a statement from Josué Colón Ortiz. LUMA speaks; Genera does not answer in this piece. On July 18, the czar had asked to advance San Juan 7, not San Juan 6. They are distinct units. They are not confused.
On July 19, Josué Colón Ortiz had warned of selective outages Sunday for lack of generation while Genera did not finish San Juan 7, Palo Seco 4, and Costa Sur 5. This July 21 note is another day and another unit: San Juan 6. A selective-outage warning and a later trip are not fused into a single outage. On the 22nd, NotiCel will cover shedding with about 254 thousand without service and Costa Sur 5 coming online.
This magazine does not turn the 133 thousand into its own count or a feeder map. What LUMA told NotiCel stands: abrupt trip, shedding, San Juan as the largest pocket. The reader who wants the operational report has the URL at the foot.
This thread is also not mixed with the cabinet departures Radio Isla covered on the same July 21. An outage and a Fortaleza conference coincide on the calendar. The outlet does not say that one cancels the other. Here it covers Central San Juan.
