The Board approves $3.64 million for UPR internships and technical assistance

On July 6, 2026, Radio Isla reports that the University of Puerto Rico announced that the Financial Oversight Board approved the release of $3,643,154 in fiscal year 2023 funds to back training programs, technical assistance, and internships for undergraduate and graduate students, in collaboration with Government of Puerto Rico agencies. The outlet's headline rounds it to $3.64 million. Both magnitudes come from the same note.

The determination, according to Radio Isla, extends the availability of those funds through June 30, 2027. The call will remain open through July 15, 2026. The president of the University of Puerto Rico, Zayira Jordán Conde, said the approval is an opportunity for students to apply knowledge in real settings and contribute to public service. "This approval represents much more than an allocation of funds," she said. Each internship, she added, strengthens student talent and reaffirms the University's role as an engine of professional development. That is her voice. Radio Isla does not publish here the number of slots or a campus-by-campus breakdown.

This release of 2023 funds is not the $13,174 million General Fund that El Nuevo Día covered on the same July 6, nor the $118 million for special education of July 2, nor the $9 million National Science Foundation grant for artificial intelligence at UPR that NotiCel dated July 19. Four line items, four URLs. A university internship and a General Fund budget are not subtracted from each other.
