FEMA approves more than $91 million for reconstruction in Puerto Rico

On July 2, 2026, Ey Boricua reports, citing EFE, that the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced the approval of more than $91 million for Public Assistance projects in communities affected by natural disasters in Puerto Rico. The funds, according to the dek of that coverage, will back infrastructure work, permanent repairs, and reimbursements for work related to hurricanes María and Fiona, as well as the 2020 earthquakes.

FEMA, the outlet adds, disburses this money to the states and local communities because they are better positioned to know how to use it. Examples the agency put in that release: $39.7 million for the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority for Hurricane María damage, to clear low-density vegetation from distribution lines in the Ponce system; $5.1 million for the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority, also for María, to rehabilitate the Barrancas water-treatment plant and the raw-water intake; and $5 million to the Department of Education for damage from the 2020 earthquakes. Those three line items are FEMA examples via Ey Boricua. They do not by themselves add up to the more than $91 million, and this magazine does not complete the inventory the page did not list.

This announcement of more than $91 million is not the Government Accountability Office report that NotiCel covered on July 3, according to which only 25 percent of the federal allocations for the electric grid had been disbursed nine years after María. A Public Assistance disbursement and a bureaucracy finding are two pieces. It is also not mixed with the imposed budget of July 1 nor with the $13,174 million General Fund that El Nuevo Día covered on July 6.

The July pick left out other FEMA clones from the same week. This note covers only the more-than-$91-million URL of July 2. The reader who wants the federal list of projects has the Ey Boricua URL at the foot.
