The Senate approves with amendments the 13,180 million dollar budget
On June 24, 2026, the Senado de Puerto Rico announces that it approved with amendments Cámara Joint Resolution 356 (A-117), an administration measure, which assigns 13,180,532,000 dollars charged to the General Fund for the ordinary expenses of the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches in the fiscal year that ends June 30, 2027. The chair of the Hacienda, Presupuesto y Promesa commission, Migdalia Padilla Alvelo, said "this is not written in stone" and that the commission held 11 public hearings pursuant to Senate Resolution 111. She wants four balanced budgets so the Junta de Supervisión Fiscal releases "the many millions they charge"; she added that the Junta came because of administrations' errors, not because the Senate called it.
The line items the page lists first: 2,981 million dollars for Educación; 1,815.2 million for Salud, with 1,030,310,000 for ASES, 514,267,000 for the Departamento de Salud, 102,667,000 for ASEM, and 150,007,000 for ASSMCA; 1,227 million for public safety, of which 1,071,105,000 go to the Policía, including 20 million for related expenses. That is the backbone of the release. The House vote of June 22, covered by Metro, had already put the 13,180,532,000 dollars and Educación's 2,981 million. This page is the senatorial vote with amendments.
On the same URL, not in separate notes, the Senate reports other acts of that session. It approved House Bill 1304 (A-121), an administration measure, to repeal Law 12-2008 on mandatory container scanning and set the Law to Promote Security at Port Facilities, in coordination with the federal government. It advanced Senate Joint Resolution 195, from Thomas Rivera Schatz, which assigns 4,728,265.90 dollars — 50 percent of the balance certified by the Comisión de Juegos — from in-route gambling machines, for municipalities. It confirmed Edison Avilés Deliz for a new term as president of the Negociado de Energía, Sylvia B. Ugarte Araujo as associate commissioner, and Rebecca Vera Ríos as superior-court judge. Those items fit because the page lists them; they are not converted into three notes with the same URL.
On June 26, Metro would recount that the House concurred with the senatorial amendments. On the 27th, El Nuevo Día covered Robert F. Mujica Jr.'s sign-off. This note covers the 24th's vote and what that Senate page put below. This is not original reporting.
