Jenniffer González Colón orders a comprehensive evaluation of the Superacueducto

On June 14, 2026, Governor Jenniffer González Colón announces the start of work for a comprehensive evaluation of the Superacueducto. The determination, La Fortaleza says, arises from recommendations of engineer Carlos Pesquera Morales after the recent breaks. Jenniffer González Colón cites more than 7 billion dollars already assigned to improve the system, and recalls that the work is more than 25 years from the vision of then-governor Pedro Rosselló. That 7 billion figure is hers, in the release. It is not a contract inventory.

Carlos Pesquera Morales asks to examine the main pipe, joints, valves, river crossings, electromechanical components, and cathodic protection. The study, of six to nine months, would produce a plan of corrective actions with priorities, costs, and a calendar. He notes the possibility of using FEMA funds, in the context of modernization at the Enrique Ortega, Sergio Cuevas, and Los Filtros plants. It coincides, he says, with what Antonio Santiago Vázquez, a figure in the Superacueducto's conception, asked in an interview about four years ago: a complete radiograph. On June 11, La Fortaleza had announced credits to about 112,000 customers for the 72-inch rupture in Bayamón. On the 6th, OE-2026-028. Three steps of the same system: operation, credits, evaluation. They are not flattened. On June 2, Robert F. Mujica Jr. was refusing to cut AAA revenues; that letter does not audit these 7 billion.

Carlos Pesquera Morales closes: the governor took the right step; now it has to be executed. There is no signed consultant contract on the page, nor an amount for the study. What remains is the 6 to 9 months, the 7 billion cited, and the request for a diagnosis.
