Luis Reinaldo González Delgado: the Superacueducto's third break is more serious

On Sunday June 14, 2026, Metro Puerto Rico quotes AAA's chief executive, Luis Reinaldo González Delgado: the third rupture in the Superacueducto in Bayamón is more serious than the other two in the 72-inch megapipe. At the third point, the pipe is split in half. Below, he says, the pipe changes direction and the weight ends up greater. Even so, he reaffirms reopening the system on Monday if there are no further inconveniences. He expects that in the first 24 hours more than 50 percent of customers will recover service.

Now, more than 112,000 customers remain without potable water. Among the repairs, he speaks of more than half a million dollars in the water-transport design. For the three breaks, he is working to acquire a free-swimming tool: a SmartBall to detect leaks, gas pockets, and map pipes.

Luis Reinaldo González Delgado says no one is prepared for an emergency and that the public should know they are going to finish the work. That is his phrase, not a forecast by this magazine. There is no map of the three ruptures here, nor the final cost. What remains is the split pipe, the SmartBall, and the 50 percent in 24 hours as his expectation.
