Aerostar surpasses 12 million passengers at Luis Muñoz Marín Airport
The operating consortium Aerostar Puerto Rico, under the leadership of its chief executive officer Jorge Hernández, announced that Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Isla Verde surpassed the historic mark of 12 million passengers moved in a consecutive twelve-month period. The milestone consolidates the island's principal airport as the passenger-traffic center with the most movement in the insular Caribbean region.
The growth in air traffic was backed by the opening of new direct frequencies to key cities in the continental United States, the reactivation of transatlantic flights with Europe, and greater connectivity with Latin American destinations. Puerto Rico Ports Authority executive director Norberto Negrón valued the result as a direct indicator of the solidity of tourist demand and the continued mobility of the Puerto Rican community abroad.
Aerostar Puerto Rico detailed that the company will continue executing its capital-improvement plan, which contemplates investments in taxiway rehabilitation, modernization of automated baggage-inspection systems, and renovation of boarding terminals. Chief executive officer Jorge Hernández underlined that the airport keeps operational coordination with the airlines to ensure capacity in peak family- and business-travel seasons.
