Genera PR begins major maintenance on the generating units at Central Aguirre

The consortium in charge of the operation and maintenance of the state thermoelectric fleet, Genera PR, announced the start of an integral major-maintenance program on generating units 1 and 2 of the Aguirre Thermoelectric Plant in the coastal municipality of Salinas.

The engineering work includes repair of leaks in high-pressure boiler pipes, replacement of blades in steam turbines, and deep cleaning of the marine condensation systems. The interventions aim to stabilize the island electric system's baseload generation capacity and prevent unscheduled forced outages during periods of maximum seasonal energy demand.

Puerto Rico Energy Bureau president Edison Avilés Deliz and AEE executive director Josué Colón Ortiz coordinated with the private company and with LUMA Energy the contingency electric-dispatch protocol to ensure that the temporary outage of these units does not cause a generation deficit or rotating blackouts for the country's residential and industrial customers.
