The drought already totals more than 26.2 million dollars; the reserve runs through September 10

On August 26, 2026, El Nuevo Día reports that Jenniffer González Colón's administration has identified more than 26 million dollars in extraordinary spending associated with the drought period of recent weeks. The Financial Oversight Board detailed it in a communication that authorized extending use of the emergency reserve through September 10. The newspaper's headline puts the spending at more than 26.2 million. The dek repeats the extension to September 10. The full body was truncated when opened. What was published in headline, dek, lead, and photo caption is copied. An agency breakdown or a reserve balance is not invented.

The photo caption says dry conditions have been recorded in more than 82 percent of Puerto Rican territory. That magnitude is the caption's, not a D3 map. On the 20th, The San Juan Daily Star put extreme at 33.31 percent. On the 24th, NotiCel spoke of a possible 40 percent of D3. The caption's 82 and D3's 33.31 are not averaged. They are distinct layers: drought in a broad sense versus extreme. This note does not rewrite those maps. It names a spending figure and a reserve date.

On August 25, El Nuevo Día covered Jenniffer González Colón in New York saying the drought still does not reach a federal Stafford major disaster, and that local resources have not been exhausted. On the 14th, Pablo José Hernández Rivera and 25 members of Congress asked Donald J. Trump for that declaration. On the 26th, the Board extends the emergency reserve through September 10. Three dates. Whether Stafford proceeds is not declared here. What the newspaper dated is named: more than 26 million, 26.2 in the headline, and September 10.

This spending is also not mixed with the 127 million federal dollars for 46 AAA works El Nuevo Día covered on August 14, or with the more than 513 million from FEMA that WIPR covered on the 11th. Emergency reserve and revolving or reconstruction funds are distinct vehicles. On the 18th, Primera Hora covered rationing credits, with no amount. The 26th is drought cash, not a bill credit.

What remain are 26.2 million in the headline, more than 26 million in the lead, the caption's 82 percent, and September 10. A reader who wants the Board letter has the El Nuevo Día URL at the foot. This is not original reporting.
