The AAA repairs La Plata's fourth pump and announces a gradual recovery

On August 25, 2026, NotiCel reports that Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority president engineer Luis R. González Delgado announced that in the afternoon they finished repair work on one of the four pumping units at La Plata dam. The unit entered operation after installing the replacement component and running tests. After the part was received Tuesday morning, Cortés Industrial staff completed assembly and tests before taking it to La Plata. There, Authority staff installed and started the unit. With the fourth pump, the sending of raw water toward the Enrique Ortega filtration plant increased.

I want to recognize our employees and the technical staff who worked around the clock, Luis R. González Delgado said. From the first moment the resources were used to identify the failure, get the part, and complete the repair. The distribution system is in gradual recovery: production and storage have to be recovered, lines filled, tanks, and household cisterns. Sectors with interruptions, intermittence, or low pressure in Bayamón, Guaynabo, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Dorado, and San Juan will begin a progressive recovery. Low zones first; the highest or farthest could take more time. The AAA will keep monitoring Enrique Ortega production, tanks, and pressures, and coordinating with municipal Emergency Management offices.

On the 22nd, El Vocero had covered more than 24,000 dry customers, La Plata at 45.35 meters, and parts that were not in Puerto Rico, with José A. Rivera Ortiz offering no time estimate. On the 23rd, El Nuevo Día placed that breakdown beside the UIA vote. The 25th is the fourth pump back. Three dates. The repair is not used to declare the Carraízo rationing closed, which NotiCel on the 24th said the Committee would not change. La Plata and Carraízo are two systems. This note is La Plata.

NotiCel does not publish here a percent of customers recovered or an hour of full restoration. On the 26th, El Nuevo Día will put another layer, 61 percent with water according to the AAA, at another URL. It is not pasted. What remain are six municipalities, the Enrique Ortega plant, Cortés Industrial, and the four units.

A reader who wants the municipal notice has the NotiCel URL at the foot. This is not original reporting.
