Senate confirms Julie Gómez; 122 million in retroactive pay remains unverified

The Senate confirmed Julie O. Gómez Gómez as Corrections secretary. DCR has a 461.226 million dollar budget, 29 institutions, 7,216 adults, 69 juveniles and more than 5,000 active employees. Gómez could not confirm whether retroactive pay owed to custody officers totals 122 million. Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz questioned cancellation of the Physician Correctional contract, which runs through September 2028; a trial court barred a replacement contract while Physician’s suit proceeds. The appointment followed Francisco Quiñones Rivera’s resignation amid administrative complaints alleging sexual and workplace harassment, sex discrimination and retaliation. Complaints are not findings.
