Jenniffer González Colón and the economic cabinet travel to New York seeking capital
On August 24, 2026, El Nuevo Día reports that Governor Jenniffer González Colón and her economic cabinet are traveling to New York to seek capital. Departure is that same 24th; return is August 26, 2026. Traveling are Manuel Ríos Pierluisi (DDEC), Nelson J. Pantoja (Hacienda), and Roberto Lefranc Fortuño (PRFAA). In San Juan, Rosachely Rivera Santana remains as acting governor. Those names and dates come from La Fortaleza via the newspaper.
La Fortaleza, in the announcement El Nuevo Día reproduces, cited a labor-force participation rate of 44.6 percent, the highest in 16 years. It cited exports of more than $53.9 billion against imports of $48.5 billion. It cited 5,069 jobs and $2.6 billion through executive order OE-2025-012.
A day later, on August 25, NotiCel publishes another trade layer, spoken by the Instituto de Estadísticas for fiscal year 2026: exports of $59,706,839,226, imports of $52,931,763,234, and a balance of $6,775,075,992. Three days earlier, on August 21, El Nuevo Día covered Governor Jenniffer González Colón at ExpoCom: she cited a surplus of $5,400 million ($53,900 million against $48,500 million). In that same text, the Institute puts 2025 exports at $62,435 million and the surplus at $7,402 million. La Fortaleza's August 24 figures do not match the Institute's on the 25th. The gap is not flattened.
The reason for the trip, according to the outlet, is investment. Caribbean Business, on August 25, sets the scene at the NYSE and the Ley 60 extension through December 31, 2055. That is another outlet. Here the fact is La Fortaleza's announcement, the cabinet that is traveling, and who remains acting governor.
The 44.6 percent participation rate is also not used to contradict other employment series. On August 22, NotiCel reported, with the Department of Labor, a labor force of 1,245,000 people and 1,171,000 employed in July, with unadjusted participation of 46 percent. On August 21, at ExpoCom, El Nuevo Día attributed to Governor Jenniffer González Colón a labor force of 1.2 million. Different speakers, different dates. This note leaves La Fortaleza's figure where La Fortaleza put it: in the announcement of the tour.
