More than 6,000 officers say they did not receive the raise and call a protest
On July 27, 2026, Radio Isla reports that the president of the Police Association, Gabriel Hernández, called a demonstration Thursday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m. in front of Police Headquarters. More than 6,000 officers, he says, were left waiting for a 43 percent salary increase. The government boasted of a substantial increase on July 15, but more than half did not receive it and those who did spoke of eight dollars per payday.
On July 15, according to Gabriel Hernández, only 40 percent of the officers benefited. There were those who received $16 a month. If that is substantial, he says, he does not want to know what poverty is. He reacts to the distribution of $44 million included in the Police budget for salary adjustments: $33 million went to the new scale and about $11 million would remain for the more than 6,000 officers who did not receive a raise. That amount, he holds, does not suffice. He always said it: that money did not stretch. They turned a deaf ear and today the news proves him right.
On July 10, NotiCel had covered that the new scale would show up in the next paycheck. On the 30th, the same outlet will report that Jenniffer González Colón blames the Financial Oversight Board: the government submitted scales on July 8, $44 million were identified, but only $28 million have been able to be used because the higher-experience scales are not approved. Radio Isla puts 33 and 11; NotiCel will put 44 and 28. Two breakdowns, two dates. They are not averaged.
Gabriel Hernández speaks as association president; Jenniffer González Colón does not answer in this piece. The 43 percent and the $8 per payday are from the union denunciation. This magazine does not turn them into a payroll. The reader who wants the call has the Radio Isla URL at the foot.
This thread is also not mixed with the Board's July 31 rejection of the bill that would convert marshals into high-risk officials. Police officers and marshals are two bodies and two notes. Here it covers the paycheck that did not arrive on the 15th and the appointment of the 30th in front of headquarters.
