Josué Colón Ortiz announces Costa Sur 6 will remain offline about two weeks
On July 18, 2026, NotiCel reports that Energy czar Josué Colón Ortiz, executive director of the Public-Private Partnerships Authority, says Costa Sur Unit 6 will remain out of service about two weeks. Genera Puerto Rico technical staff, according to his written remarks, reported problems in start-up and synchronization the previous day, after Thursday night's sudden trip. There was damage in the support system of several main steam lines.
Josué Colón Ortiz ties that event to operations of 230 kV line 50400 and to disturbances at Costa Sur's 230 kV Transmission Center. He announces he will send a communication to LUMA Energy so it identifies and corrects the cause of Thursday's disturbance. That attribution is his, published by NotiCel. This magazine does not referee between generator and grid operator.
The czar instructs Genera to advance repairs at Costa Sur 5 (400 MW), Palo Seco 4 (200 MW), and San Juan 7 (100 MW), so they enter service on or before Monday, July 20. Those three megawatt figures come from the note. There is no reserve inventory here, nor a count of customers in the dark in this piece.
On July 16, NotiCel covered Costa Sur Unit 6's abrupt trip and an outage on the order of 188 thousand customers, according to that other note's headline. On July 19, the same Josué Colón Ortiz will warn of selective outages while those three units do not synchronize. On July 22, NotiCel will report that Costa Sur 5 comes online to ease a deficit. They are four dates of one arc. This one covers the two-week deadline and the pointing at LUMA.
It is also not mixed with the preliminary $25,000-a-day fines on Genera for reserve units that this desk already has on July 31. A repair deadline, a regulatory fine, and a load shedding are three threads. The reader who wants the written statement has the NotiCel URL at the foot.
