Passenger traffic fell 4.6 percent in June
On July 6, 2026, Sin Comillas reports that in June Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport received 1.2 million passengers, a 4.6 percent drop against the same month last year. Luisa García Pelatti bylines the note with data from Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, parent of Aerostar, which has operated the airport under concession since 2013. Traffic, she writes, has declined in the last nine months.
The number of people who traveled by air between Puerto Rico and the United States in May fell 4.9 percent, to 1.02 million. Passengers to and from other countries fell 2.7 percent between June 2025 and June 2026, to 174,424. In the first six months of the year traffic has fallen 2.8 percent. In 2025, the number of passengers reached a record of 13.6 million, a 3.0 percent increase relative to 2024. Those magnitudes are ASUR's via Sin Comillas. This magazine does not reconcile May with June or convert the 2025 record into a 2026 forecast.
This passenger series is not a weekly Transportation Security Administration report. The July pick left TSA clones out. On July 1, the same Sin Comillas covered the manufacturing PMI at 52.4. A factory index and a suitcase count are two thermometers. On July 17, Sin Comillas reported six consecutive months of contraction in local economic activity. The 4.6 percent airport figure is also not used to contradict that IAE.
