Thomas Rivera Schatz demands information from DDEC and Hacienda on the Politank case

On July 1, 2026, Radio Isla reports that Senate president Thomas Rivera Schatz filed two Information Requests directed to the Department of Economic Development and Commerce and the Department of the Treasury. The object, according to the outlet, is to require official information on the actions taken by both agencies after an internal audit report that identified alleged noncompliance related to the tax-exemption decree granted to Politank Corp. The agencies, Radio Isla headlines, must respond within 72 hours.

The requests, the note adds, respond to the audit report made public on June 29, which concludes that the company would have failed to meet multiple obligations of its tax decree, including the omission of several Exempt Business Annual Reports, as well as other administrative requirements tied to the incentives granted. Request 2026-0099, directed to DDEC secretary Carlos J. Ríos Pierluisi, asks the agency to report whether it revoked, annulled, or canceled the decree; detail the administrative steps taken after the audit; report whether the case was referred to Hacienda or another agency; and send a certified copy of the complete administrative file. Radio Isla names the secretary that way. This magazine copies the name from that page. It does not substitute it.

Request 2026-0100, directed to Treasury secretary Ángel L. Pantoja Rodríguez, requires information on the status of any process to recover taxes, interest, surcharges, or penalties that might correspond as a consequence of the noncompliance. That is the name Radio Isla puts on the request. It stays in the citation.

On July 8, 2026, NotiCel covered another step: DDEC imposed an $80,000 fine on Politank Corp. and warned that it could lose the decree. That fine is later than these requests. The July 1 document demand is not collapsed with the July 8 sanction. Two dates, two acts. The reader who wants the text of requests 2026-0099 and 2026-0100 has the Radio Isla URL at the foot.
