The House approves 13,180 million dollars of the General Fund for FY2027

On June 22, 2026, Metro Puerto Rico reports that the Cámara de Representantes approved by voice vote Cámara Joint Resolution 356, which assigns 13,180,532,000 dollars of the General Fund for fiscal year 2026-2027. House speaker Carlos Méndez Núñez said the budget has been worked since February with Eddie Charbonier Chinea and the Hacienda commission, and that it is the first time in more than seven years that House, Senate, Executive, and Junta de Supervisión Fiscal sit down to discuss spending. The resolution, Metro adds, takes effect July 1, 2026 if the Senate approves it.

Among the line items Metro lists: 2,981 million dollars for the Departamento de Educación; 1,815 million for Salud; 1,071 million for the Policía; 512.9 million for Corrección. The Universidad de Puerto Rico would receive 560.8 million, after incorporating 60 million that were under custody of the Oficina de Gerencia y Presupuesto. Eddie Charbonier Chinea, according to Metro, said that to vote against it is to vote against the University. Other figures from the same text: 477.9 million for special education; 45.1 million for transportation; 44 million for Police rank salary adjustments; 15.6 million for vests; 10.8 million for the Centro Comprensivo del Cáncer; 20 million for homemakers; 5.8 million for Centro Cardiovascular nursing.

Carlos Méndez Núñez called this the second balanced budget the Junta would certify, "halfway" to the body leaving. That reading is his, published by Metro. It is not a PROMESA exit date. On June 24, the Senate would approve the same RCC 356 with amendments, at another URL. On June 29, El Nuevo Día would recount Jenniffer González Colón's signing with line-item vetoes. Three acts. This note is the House vote of the 22nd.

Metro does not publish the nominal tally, only "by voice." A 27-0 is not invented here. What remain are the line items the outlet put and the 13,180,532,000 dollars. The reader has the URL. This is not original reporting.
