The Senate Nominations Commission delivers favorable reports on superior judges and prosecutors

The Nominations Commission of the Puerto Rico Senate, chaired by Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz, delivered a series of positive reports after finishing the public evaluation hearings of candidates nominated to judicial posts and to the Public Ministry.

The Senate reports recommended confirmation of nominees to superior-judge and municipal-judge posts in various judicial districts of the Office of Court Administration (OAT), led by Judge Sigfrido Steidel Figueroa, as well as nominations of district assistant prosecutors in the Department of Justice.

Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz emphasized during the deliberations that the legislative body exercises its constitutional advice-and-consent prerogative with rigor, evaluating each nominee's ethical trajectory, professional solvency, and commitment to the impartial administration of justice. Confirmation of the judicial slates will allow the backlog in the country's civil and criminal courtrooms to be reduced.
