CPI: five-year federal inquiry into Héctor Sánchez; no indictment
CPI and 9 Millones reported a five-year FBI and U.S. Education Department OIG inquiry into Senator Héctor Joaquín Sánchez Álvarez over alleged contractor bribes during his Education tenure and later political roles. Federal prosecutor spokeswoman Lymarie Llovet would neither confirm nor deny an inquiry. Sánchez said he had not been notified or summoned and called the claims absurd. The Comptroller registry cited by CPI showed INSOL with 51.7 million dollars in Education contracts over 17 years; a sworn source alleged requests involving INSOL and AKA Electrical exceeded 50,000 dollars. INSOL vice president Julio César Muñoz Ayala called any bribery link absolutely false. No indictment was reported.
