USDM: D1–D4 drought drops to 69%; D3 remains near 40%

The map of the U.S. Drought Monitor for Puerto Rico, valid on September 8, 2026 and published on Thursday, September 10, shows partial relief from territorial drought compared to the previous week, without relieving pressure on the east and south of the island.

Territorial PDF figures: area in D1–D4 at 69.10% (previously 75.21%); D2–D4 at 57.78% (previously 62.26%); extreme drought D3–D4 at 39.49% (previously 40.99%). Exceptional D4 remains at 0%. Area without drought (None) rose to 20.36% from 17.09%. Abnormally dry conditions or worse (D0–D4) cover 79.64% of the territory.

The monitor is a weekly added product; it does not replace the AAA's daily reservoir report nor decide rationing. Improvement of coverage on the map ≠ Carraízo or La Plata at the safety threshold, nor automatic lifting of cuts.

Update the DGT table from the National Weather Service of September 3 (cousin 705), when D3 still predominated in much of the east/south and the pause of interruptions in Carraízo was being discussed. Primary: PDF Drought Monitor PR (valid Sep 8 / released Sep 10). Residual drought ≠ end of water emergency.
