JR 61-2026 assigns $2.47 million in telecom patents to eight municipalities
Governor Jenniffer González Colón signed into law Joint Resolution 61-2026, which assigns $2,469,658.20 to eight municipalities to strengthen essential services and finance infrastructure, permanent improvements and operating expenses. The Office of Management and Budget certified that the resources come from the available balance of telecommunications patents corresponding to fiscal years 2020 through 2025. Fortaleza framed the cut as support for municipalities with more vulnerable populations and greater economic need. The legislation was presented by Senate president Thomas Rivera Schatz, along with Sens. Wilmer Reyes, Rafael “Rafy” Santos, Brenda Pérez Soto and Luis Daniel Colón La Santa.
The distribution touches Adjuntas, Cayey, Ceiba, Coamo, Dorado, Lajas, Loíza and Maricao. Ceiba receives the largest share: $534,829.10 for permanent works and improvements, plus operating and administrative expenses. Dorado and Lajas get $500,000 each. Adjuntas and Coamo, $200,000 each; in Adjuntas, the funds go to roofing the court at Escuela Segunda Unidad Héctor Rivera. Cayey is left with $34,829.10 for municipal operations and infrastructure projects. Loíza and Maricao receive $250,000 each to strengthen services, critical infrastructure, health, public safety and economic development. An assignment certified by OGP is not a disbursement collected municipality by municipality.
