COR3: FEMA obligated 81.9 million for 59 projects in the week of August 24–31

On August 31, 2026, Governor Jenniffer González Colón announces that FEMA obligated 81,903,943.10 dollars for 59 recovery and reconstruction projects in Puerto Rico during the week of August 24–31, 2026. The COR3 release speaks of obligated funds — “obligated” / “obligations” — and does not print a disbursed total for that weekly package. Obligated is not disbursed. This desk does not turn the obligation into a cashed check or into theft.

Of the total, 42 projects correspond to Hurricane María with 64,692,469.51 dollars; 14 to Hurricane Fiona with 16,182,263.11; and three to the southwest earthquakes with 1,029,210.48. Disasters are not averaged. Separate pots. Among the largest obligations cited: 20,536,866.68 for permanent work at the Prudencio Rivera Martínez Building, central headquarters of the Department of Labor and Human Resources, and 10,556,954.54 for reconstruction of the Héctor Solá Besares Coliseum in Caguas. Lines also appear for roads in Cayey, works in Toa Baja, PREPA electric infrastructure, UPR Río Piedras, the Jayuya DAC and administrative costs in San Lorenzo, among others.

COR3 executive director María L. Marín Colón and PRFAA executive director Gabriella Boffelli commented on federal coordination and responsible use of assigned resources. The governor’s thanks to President Donald J. Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton remain in the release; this note does not turn them into a disbursement.

What remains is 81,903,943.10 obligated in 59 projects, the María / Fiona / earthquakes breakdown, and a no to calling the weekly obligation a disbursement. A reader who wants the COR3 release of the 31st has the URL at the foot. This is not original reporting.
