Jenniffer González Colón meets with Thomas Rivera Schatz and sends 24 nominations to the Senate
On August 17, 2026, Metro Puerto Rico reports that Governor Jenniffer González Colón brought together Senate president Thomas Rivera Schatz; House speaker Carlos Méndez Núñez; and secretary of the Governorship Norma Burgos Andújar, to align the agenda for the start of session. The meeting comes after Thomas Rivera Schatz and Carlos Méndez Núñez failed to lock in meetings with Francisco Domenech. The governor spoke of new initiatives for Puerto Rico's benefit. The outlet recalls pending priorities: permit reform, elimination of the inventory tax, and permanent relief for taxpayers. Norma Burgos Andújar remains the liaison with the Legislature.
That same day, Jenniffer González Colón sent the Senate 24 nominations: three to boards, ten to the judiciary, and eleven to the Department of Justice, subject to advice and consent. On boards, with immediate service by recess: Jonnathan García Rosado, School of Plastic Arts and Design board; Francisco J. Quintana González, Medical Licensing and Discipline Board; Waldemar Quiles Pérez, Convention Center District Authority board. In the judiciary: municipal judges Sarah I. Velilla Núñez, Roberto Juan Hernández Ramos, and María del Pilar Vázquez Muñiz; superior judge on promotion Marieli Paradizo Pérez; superior judges Ilsa I. González Rivera, Celso Lorenzo Gutiérrez, Elmer Luis Cuerda Cruz, Mariela T. Santini Rodríguez, Raphael Rosado Anazagasty, and Jannat K. Ramos Román.
At Justice: assistant prosecutors Jahdiel Carrasquillo Rivera, Wilfredo J. Santiago Vega, Meilynn Ramos Rivera, Dairene Santo Domingo Rivera, Jorge L. Martínez Rivera, and Limarí Cobián Lugo; juvenile prosecutors Amarilis Rodríguez Nazario, Elizabeth Pitino Acevedo, and Ana Margarita Ruiz Ramos; family prosecutor Iris Lizette Colucci Bisto; Property registrar Mary J. Tanner Zalduondo. Those names are from the statement via Metro Puerto Rico.
On August 17, Metro Puerto Rico covered, at another URL, what to expect from the new session. This piece covers the meeting and the 24 names. On the 10th, Primera Hora covered Norma Burgos Andújar. On the 13th, Metro covered legislative priorities. They are not fused.
Anyone looking for each nominee's résumé has the URL at the foot. This is not original reporting.
