Extreme drought already covers almost a fifth of Puerto Rico

On August 13, 2026, El Nuevo Día reports that extreme drought is expanding and already covers almost a fifth of Puerto Rico. The clip's data run through August 11 at 8:00 a.m. The dek adds that the Drought Monitor raises D3 and D2, and that 13 of 19 AAA reservoirs fell. The piece's full HTML was not reopened. Only what the clip listed is written, and the tenths the clip left as x are not filled in.

D3, extreme drought, rose 7.53 points. It had been at 9.x percent: the clip does not keep the tenth, and it is not invented here. D2 went from 26.14 percent to 36.x percent: again, without the final tenth. The Carraízo rationing is dated from August 7. Thirteen of nineteen reservoirs fell. Which thirteen is not named. A meter reading the clip does not bring is not published.

Seven days earlier, on August 6, the same El Nuevo Día covered the Monitor declaring extreme drought in portions of the south, with data as of August 4, a day before the rationing. That note, also clipped, speaks of July as the driest in San Juan in the series, of coffee and irrigation hit, of an unofficial coffee report at minus 69 percent, of rationed irrigation in the south, of two reservoirs already in operational adjustment and five more that could follow. Those two and those five are not imported into this August 13 piece as if the August 11 Monitor had counted them again. They are named as the August 6 note.

On August 6, El Nuevo Día also recounted Héctor Del Río Jiménez's resignation: 48-hour rationing for about 180,000 Carraízo customers in San Juan, Trujillo Alto, Carolina, Canóvanas, Gurabo, Loíza, and Juncos. On August 11, El Vocero covered the UIA stoppage. On August 25, Jenniffer González Colón will tell El Nuevo Día the drought still does not meet a federal major disaster. On August 21, Pablo José Hernández Rivera and nine members of Congress ask USDA for an agricultural emergency in 29 municipalities, 28 in extreme drought and San Germán in severe. None of those layers completes the D3 and D2 tenths.

Almost a fifth is the headline's phrase. 7.53 points is the only D3 move the clip figures to two decimals. The 9.x and the 36.x are left with x. This magazine does not turn the Monitor into a new municipal map.
