The Monitor declares extreme drought in the south, a day before the rationing
On August 6, 2026, El Nuevo Día covers the extreme-drought declaration in portions of southern Puerto Rico. The data are as of August 4. The article's date aligns with the Thursday before the August 7 rationing. The dek says July was the driest in San Juan in the series, and that coffee and irrigation are already hit. The full HTML was not reopened. Stations and millimeters are not invented.
An unofficial report, according to the clip, puts coffee at minus 69 percent. Irrigation is rationed in the south. Two reservoirs are already in operational adjustment. Five more could follow. The clip does not name the two or the five. The count is copied and the names are left out.
That same August 6, in the government note, El Nuevo Día recounts Héctor Del Río Jiménez's resignation over a 48-hour rationing that touches about 180,000 Carraízo customers. That list of northern and eastern municipalities is not the south's D3 map. They are two pieces from the same day. The Carraízo rationing, in the August 13 note, is dated from the 7th. The August 4 Monitor previews the south. Carraízo enters the next day in the newspaper's telling.
On August 13, El Nuevo Día returns to the Monitor: D3 rises 7.53 points from a 9.x percent, D2 goes from 26.14 to 36.x, and 13 of 19 AAA reservoirs fell. That expansion is not backdated to August 4. On August 23, NotiCel publishes a UPR study: local farmers win on price in 30 of 74 products; agriculture is 0.6 percent of GDP and 1.5 percent of employment; imports cover more than 75 percent of food. Coffee at minus 69 percent, if the unofficial report holds, hits a sector those other notes already describe as thin. The 0.6 is not used to invent a loss in dollars.
A day before the rationing, the Monitor puts D3 in the south. A dry July in San Juan, irrigation cut, two reservoirs in adjustment. El Nuevo Día dated the clip. This magazine does not complete the map or turn the minus 69 percent into an official harvest.
