The government announces operational adjustments at six AAA reservoirs

On July 20, 2026, Radio Isla reports that the government will implement operational adjustments at six reservoirs, on a day when Canóvanas and Río Grande are already under rationing. Secretary of State Rosachely Rivera Santana headed, on instructions from Governor Jenniffer González Colón, a follow-up meeting with the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority, the National Weather Service, and the Drought Committee. The authorities, according to the outlet, are alert to a tropical wave and a trough that could bring more rain between Monday and Tuesday.

AAA executive president Luis Reinaldo González Delgado says the reservoirs keep falling because of dry conditions. Carraízo and Cidra remain under watch. The six reservoirs the corporation administers, according to the note, are Carraízo, La Plata, Cidra, Toa Vaca, Río Blanco, and Fajardo. The purpose of the adjustments is to reduce the impact on levels, conserve water, and extend supply. The Guzmán Arriba filter plant, which supplies sectors of Río Grande and Canóvanas, remains under scheduled interruptions.

On July 16, NotiCel had covered the resumption of that rationing from 6:00 a.m. Friday. On July 7, Metro reported Jenniffer González Colón's state of emergency in those two municipalities. This Radio Isla note does not repeat the decree. It adds the six-reservoir package and Rosachely Rivera Santana's role. A local rationing and an island-wide adjustment are two scales.

Radio Isla does not publish in this piece the levels in feet or a rationing threshold for San Juan. On July 27, NotiCel will cover that AAA will reduce Carraízo extraction to postpone interruptions. On the 29th, that it asks for help to stretch supplies. On the 30th, that Tuesday the management plan is announced. Those are later notes. Here it covers the Monday the 20th announcement.

Jenniffer González Colón gives the instruction; Rosachely Rivera Santana chairs the table; Luis Reinaldo González Delgado names the six basins. The reader who wants the weather report or the committee minutes has the Radio Isla URL at the foot.
