Hacienda disburses more than $57 million in credits for seniors and pensioners

On July 17, 2026, NotiCel publishes that the secretary of the Department of the Treasury, whom the outlet names Ángel Pantoja Rodríguez, reported Friday a disbursement of $57.4 million in refundable credits to 123,111 low-income seniors and pensioners. Each qualifying senior can receive $400; eligible pensioners can claim $300. Those two amounts and that total come from the note, not from a recount by this magazine.

The secretary, in written remarks NotiCel reproduces, says that last year approximately 190,000 returns were filed and that, as of today, Hacienda has received 129,382 returns from seniors and pensioners. He expects to approach that figure in the coming weeks. New payments of $29,675,941 were approved, representing another 63,519 returns already processed. That disbursement adds to the payments begun July 2 and raises to $57,418,371 what has been distributed through the Senior Return.

Taxpayers will have until October 14 to apply for the credit with Form 481.1, electronically in SURI, from the taxpayer's account or through a certified specialist. As part of the service fairs, about 3,000 people have received assistance. Next week Hacienda offers help Monday in Guayanilla, Tuesday in Arroyo, Wednesday in Vieques, and Thursday in Aibonito, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Those who request assistance must bring photo identification and, if they are Social Security beneficiaries, Form SSA-1099.

This note does not turn the credit into a verdict on poverty or into a cut of another line. It is also not mixed with the IVU-exempt days for uniforms that NotiCel covered on July 9, nor with the Financial Oversight Board's rejection of a school IVU extension that this desk already has dated July 14. A refundable credit, an IVU exemption, and a Board rejection are three threads. Here it covers the Senior Return disbursement.

Other notes, in August, name Nelson J. Pantoja at the head of Hacienda. This July 17 page names Ángel Pantoja Rodríguez. What was printed is copied. The reader who wants the form or the fair calendar has the NotiCel URL at the foot.
