Housing completes delivery of more than 8,000 homes rebuilt under the R3 program
Puerto Rico Housing Department secretary William Rodríguez Rodríguez presented the balance and closing report of the Repair, Reconstruction or Relocation Program (R3), financed with federal CDBG-DR recovery funds allocated after hurricanes Irma and María.
The public corporation reported the successful completion of more than 8,000 safe-housing projects across the island's geography, including substantial repairs of collapsed roofs, full reconstruction of reinforced-concrete residences, and the relocation of thousands of families who lived in high landslide-risk zones or on flood-prone maritime-terrestrial strips.
Secretary William Rodríguez Rodríguez noted that the completed projects incorporated earthquake-resistant building codes and reinforced roofs to withstand Category 5 hurricane-force winds. Community representatives valued the progress but emphasized the need to keep speeding affordable-housing programs to serve vulnerable populations that still face difficulties of dignified housing.
