LUMA Energy installs replacement transformers at substations in the south and center
The company in charge of the electric transmission and distribution system, LUMA Energy, led by its executive president Janisse Quiñones, announced the completion of the complex transport and installation maneuvers of replacement transformers at key electric substations in Puerto Rico's southern and central region.
The technical assembly and interconnection work at the Santa Isabel, Coamo, and Aibonito substations sought to stabilize the regional electric grid after months of severe mechanical failures, recurrent blackouts, and voltage fluctuations that affected tens of thousands of families, businesses, and poultry and agricultural industries in the zone.
Puerto Rico Energy Bureau president Edison Avilés Deliz and mayors of the affected municipalities oversaw the energization plan, demanding rigorous load and contingency tests. Executive president Janisse Quiñones indicated that putting these transformers into service will reinforce the electric system's redundancy in the southern communities.
