The Department of Health assigns CDC funds for vaccination centers and epidemiological surveillance

Puerto Rico Department of Health secretary Carlos Mellado López announced the assignment of a substantial federal funding line from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), meant to strengthen mass-immunization and epidemiological-surveillance programs across the island.

The federal resources were channeled toward the 330 primary-health-center network, municipal dispensaries, and university clinics to carry out free community vaccination fairs against seasonal influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Vector-control units were also reinforced to combat the spread of dengue in coastal municipalities.

Secretary Carlos Mellado López urged the population, especially adults over 65, people with chronic illnesses, and small children, to go to health centers for their booster doses before the start of the high-incidence winter season. The Puerto Rico Primary Health Association backed the deployment of mobile brigades in isolated rural communities.
