The Department of Public Safety renews collaboration agreements with federal agencies
Department of Public Safety (DSP) secretary Alexis Torres Ríos and Puerto Rico Police Bureau commissioner Antonio López Figueroa signed the formal renewal of interagency collaboration agreements with the San Juan division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), led by Special Agent in Charge Joseph González.
The bilateral agreements reinforce the assignment of state agents to the Safe Streets Task Force and to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) committees. The joint initiatives concentrate on dismantling transnational organized-crime organizations dedicated to controlled-substance trafficking, illicit automatic-weapons smuggling, and complex asset-laundering schemes in the Caribbean.
Secretary Alexis Torres Ríos and Commissioner Antonio López Figueroa underlined that tactical coordination with federal agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), has allowed million-dollar maritime narcotics shipments to be seized on Puerto Rico's coasts, protecting public safety in the island's communities.
