HUD OIG: $179,761 spent of $1.93 billion electrical
On August 13, 2024, HUD's Office of Inspector General reports, in a press release, that as of July 12 the Puerto Rico Department of Housing had spent $179,761 of $1.93 billion in CDBG-DR for the electrical system. The review report prints $179,760. Both are left. No winner is chosen. They are not averaged. ER1, about $500 million, and ER2, about $1.3 billion, launched in 2023. PRDOH sought an extension toward May 2033, nearly five years after the original August 2028 deadline. A late start. Not a theft finding.
That is why HUD's February 1, 2026 table still shows 5.1 percent on the electrical grant: 5.1 percent, energy grant. The 5.1 of 2026 and the $179,761 of 2024 are the same electrical pot, not all of María. This note does not rewrite that table. The long report lives at another HUD OIG URL; the primary here is the press release. Less than 1 percent as of July 12, 2024. Press and report are not fused. The 5.1 of 2026 is born of that start, not of a theft found here.
What remains is $179,761, $179,760, a 2023 start, and an extension toward 2033. A reader who wants the August 13 release has the HUD OIG URL at the foot. This is not original reporting.
