Two fiscal board members flagged from above

WASHINGTON — The appointments of Republicans Carlos García and José Carrión III to the new authority that will control Puerto Rico’s fiscal affairs were recommended to President Barack Obama by Speaker Paul Ryan, Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi confirmed, according to El Nuevo Día (September 11, 2016).

The primary’s dek indicates García and Carrión III were proposed by Ryan. The photo caption notes that Carlos García’s designation has been criticized because he could take decisions on the board about debt issuances he pushed in the prior term when he chaired GDB.

This desk does not invent full lists of the seven members or the detail of each congressional slate: the rest of the primary body sits behind a paywall. A recommended appointment is not a sentence or an adjudicated conflict of interest.
