Губернатор: разрешения на сухое дноуглубление Carraízo; рационирование на паузе
On September 5, 2026, Metro reported that Puerto Rico’s governor announced the government already holds U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) permits for dry dredging — removing shoreline sediment — at the Carraízo reservoir (Trujillo Alto). The permits, she said, run for five years. Permit ≠ completed dredging; multi-year term ≠ work already executed.
In her message the governor said: “We just received the permits… to do the dry dredging or sediment removal.” She said machines are already in the Gurabo area, where part of Carraízo’s water is stored, and that “you cannot enter to dredge because there was water.” On customer service: for now Carraízo rationing will not resume; “we remain paused… levels are under observation.” Rationing pause ≠ end of drought.
Metro also summarized Friday AAA monitoring: Carraízo down two centimeters to 39.09 meters (observation); La Plata down two centimeters to 44.57 meters and still in operational adjustments. Figures as printed by Metro; this desk does not reconcile them here with other same-day bulletins.
Per Metro, the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) on Thursday showed extreme drought on 40.99% of the territory (was 44.45%); severe (D2) on 62.26% (was 66.61%); moderate (D1) unchanged at 75.21%. Map improvement ≠ drought closed or dredging already done. Primary: Metro 2026-09-05.
