Radio Isla: панель El Calentón обсуждает Esencia в Cabo Rojo

On September 4, 2026, Radio Isla published the special El Calentón program with Sonia Valentín on the luxury megaproject Esencia in Cabo Rojo, titled “Esencia: development or threat?” The panel mixed community, legal and planning voices; it is analysis programming, not an adjudicative hearing.

Participants included voices from Coalición Defiende Cabo Rojo, planner/activist Luis Soderberg, attorney Pedro Saadé Benet and former Planning Board chair María Gordillo García Pelatti, among others cited by the station. Themes tracked Senate water, energy and tourism-credit arguments: alleged private self-sufficiency, density cuts versus older approvals, and whether location consultation conditions are enforceable.

Valentín framed the question as whether Cabo Rojo gains jobs and tax base or risks aquifers, coasts and public systems already under drought and outage stress. Guests disputed proponent claims that agencies failed to file written objections and that private wells plus desalination close the water gap.

Analysis program ≠ administrative ruling. Panelist opinions ≠ official finding. Primary: Radio Isla. Cousin: none.
